The Newport waterfront will soon have a decidedly Italian flavor. Hammetts is excited to announce that Giusto, a freestyle Italian restaurant, is scheduled to open in our hotel this summer. The eatery is the first solo venture from renowned Executive Chef and Rhode Island native Kevin O'Donnell. The menu will serve up Kevin’s favorite regional Italian dishes with a few playful Rhode Island twists. His original take on Italian dining will be complemented, and enhanced, by a carefully crafted bar program offering a mix of classic and freestyle cocktails, beer from local breweries and a predominantly Italian wine list that includes plenty of natural selections. Giusto will be open 7 days a week and features a private dining room, semi open kitchen and an outdoor bar.

What’s more, reflecting Hammetts’ ongoing commitment to our local community, Kevin and his staff are already developing partnerships with area farms and producers to help support as many small businesses as possible.

The Man Behind Giusto

Executive Chef Kevin O’Donnell, a native Rhode Islander, is thrilled to be returning home to open Giusto. Kevin was most recently chef and partner at SRV in Boston. Under his helm the restaurant garnered numerous accolades including Best Italian Restaurant in Boston for 3 years, a nomination from The James Beard Foundation for Best New Restaurant in the USA and a perfect 4-star review from Boston Magazine. Previous to that, he worked as a chef in Italy (where he embraced his true passion for Italian cuisine), Paris, New York and locally at Castle Hill Inn.
